One Piece Episode 1090: What Happened To The Bonney Pirates? Explained

With the release of One Piece episode 1090 earlier this weekend, fans were given the major setup to the two central overarching plotlines of the Egghead arc’s opening stages. While Luffy and the Straw Hats try to find their way to Egghead Island and deduce who Dr. Vegapunk truly is, the members of SWORD are seemingly focused on getting Koby back.

However, One Piece episode 1090 did give a minimal focus to Jewelry Bonney, whose presence and appearance is likely the most confusing and intriguing plot line currently. While her presence in and of itself fits this category, fans are specifically curious about where the rest of her crew is, and why she’s by herself when the Straw Hats find and rescue her.

Unfortunately, given the episode’s minimal focus on Bonney herself, fans don’t quite learn what happened to the Bonney Pirates in One Piece episode 1090’s events. While there is thankfully an exact answer as to where the Bonney Pirates are and what happened to them, it’s one that fans may not necessarily be happy to hear about.

What happened to the Bonney Pirates? Explained

Before One Piece episode 1090, the last time fans saw Jewelry Bonney with her crew was following their loss to the Blackbeard Pirates somewhere in the New World. The crew and their captain were put in chains by Blackbeard, who initially planned to bargain with the Marines for his own safety by handing them over.

However, this didn’t quite go as planned, resulting in Blackbeard abandoning Bonney and Co. to ensure his own crew's escape and survival. This led to Admiral Akainu discovering and capturing the crew, taking them back to Marine Headquarters. However, Bonney was unable to escape, as fans well know after seeing her free during the Reverie arc and now once more during the Egghead arc.

What One Piece episode 1090 doesn’t clarify, however, is whether or not her crew were also able to escape. Unfortunately, they were not, meaning their fate is generally known, but exact details are unclear. More likely than not, the crew has either already been sent to Impel Down or is still at Marine Headquarters awaiting their eventual sentencing and fate. This information was revealed in one of the series’ Vivre Cards, with the franchise’s wiki site citing Card #0511.

All that being said, it’s entirely possible that the Bonney Pirates have already found a way out, and fans just haven’t been made privy to that information yet. After all, the Vivre Card information discussed above was first released in October 2018. Given how dated that information is, it’s entirely possible that the situation has changed and fans simply haven’t been updated yet.

However, in terms of current information fans have available, the fate of the Bonney Pirates save Jewelry Bonney herself seems clear. While it’s possible that their status will be updated soon, One Piece episode 1090 sadly failed to share this information. Hopefully, future episodes of the Egghead arc will see Bonney reunite with her crew somehow.
